Further security and privacy risks to users of Siri, Apple’s personal assistant, have been revealed that could allow anyone to gain entry to personal data on someone else’s Siri-enabled iOS device, regardless if the device is locked.
A new blog post from Trend Micro details how anyone can use voice recognition to gain entry to data on someone else’s device, even those protected by a passcode.
“Once anyone has physical access to your device, they can use voice recognition to call out a number of commands, including those that give access to names, numbers, calendar entries, and more,” the post stated.
What’s needed is vocal identity recognition or user authentication, the post said. Trend Micro recommended that iOS users be careful of who accesses their Siri-enabled devices, and advised users to turn Siri off as needed. Apple informed the company that users could disable Siri on the lock screen.
